Stork Rock - Comino

Satellite Reef on the Great Barrier Reef is one of those sites we always try to hit when we're in the area. It’s not about huge pelagics here, though a Great hammerhead might cruise by if you’re lucky, but it’s the sheer density and variety of the corals that makes it a standout for us. You drop onto a reef bursting with Pavona, Turbinaria, and those wonderfully convoluted Largebrain Root corals. It feels like swimming through a living, breathing sculpture garden. We love exploring the nooks and crannies where you often spot Pharaoh Cuttlefish doing their colour-changing dance, or a Thorny Flathead perfectly camouflaged against the sand. The coral formations here are just incredible, especially the Cauliflower coral patches that sway gently with the surge. Visibility can be epic, often 20 metres plus, especially on an incoming tide when the water is super clear. Keep an eye out for the ruddy turnstones and Brown Boobies above the surface during your safety stop, too. This site really shines for macro enthusiasts and anyone who just wants to immerse themselves in a vibrant coral ecosystem.
