Um El Faroud - Comino

The Um El Faroud. This wreck, a former Libyan oil tanker, was scuttled off Wied iz-Zurrieq in 1998 after an explosion in dry dock. It’s big, 110 metres long, and we love how it practically dominates the seabed. We usually descend right onto the stern, which now lies at around 30 metres, the bow shallower at 25 metres. Inside, you can fin through the engine room or explore the bridge, the whole structure becoming an artificial reef. Keep an eye out for the resident groupers, they’re often massive and quite curious. You’ll also spot schools of barracuda circling the mast. Our favourite detail? The sheer scale of the propeller. It's a fantastic wreck for experienced divers comfortable with deep entries and potential currents, offering plenty to explore over multiple dives. Visibility here can often hit 30 metres, especially in summer, making the sheer size of the wreck even more impressive as it slowly reveals itself on the descent.
