The team at Jæren Dykkersenter are our kind of people. They understand that diving in Lofoten isn’t about balmy water and bright colours; it’s about a rugged, wild beauty that demands respect and the right gear. We love that they focus heavily on dry suit training and freediving, really leaning into the local conditions. This isn't a centre for your tropical open water certification, it's where you go to get truly comfortable in colder water, or to hone your breath-hold skills exploring kelp forests. We’d suggest them if you're serious about diving the dramatic Norwegian coastline. The visibility here can be surprisingly good, but the water is cold, often hovering around 5-8°C even in summer. You’ll appreciate their robust gear selection and the fact that they really know their dry suits – a critical piece of kit here. Expect to see impressive wolf fish, massive crabs scuttling over the rocky bottom, and the occasional curious seal. The surface can be choppy, but underwater, the sheer walls and dramatic topography are genuinely stunning. Our favourite time to visit is late spring, before the peak summer crowds, when the light has a crisp, clear quality.
