JOANSSI - Balearic Islands

Joanssi isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't some deep, dark mystery but an incredibly accessible site. It sits right in the shallows, barely a metre deep in parts, which makes it perfect for snorkelers or those looking to spend a long, leisurely time exploring without the usual depth constraints. What we found was a fragmented wreck, scattered across the seafloor, but those pieces tell a story. You'll see ribs of the hull, sections of deck, and a surprising amount of machinery, all barnacle-encrusted and fuzzy with algae. It’s fascinating to trace the outlines of what was once a working vessel. Our favourite part is how the light plays on the metal, reflecting off the sand and illuminating all the little crevices. Those nooks and crannies are now home to juvenile fish, small crabs scuttling over the rust, and an abundance of nudibranchs, if you look closely. We’d suggest going early in the morning before any boat traffic stirs up the sand, to get the best visibility. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, or just a really engaging snorkel, offering a different kind of beauty than a vibrant coral reef.
