LUIS IBORRA - Cabo de Palos

The Luis Iborra, a fishing trawler that went down in 1960, is a genuine standout in Cabo de Palos. Sitting upright at 47 metres, with the deck around 42m, it’s a site for experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles. We love how intact it still is; you can often peer into the wheelhouse, seeing the gauges and controls frozen in time. The bow is particularly striking, often enveloped by schools of barracuda, their silver scales flashing as they swirl around the mast. Our favourite part is the engine room, accessible through a large opening midship. Inside, the light filters down, illuminating huge groupers that have made it their home. Visibility here can hit 30 metres on a good day, allowing the wreck to truly reveal its secrets as you descend. We’d suggest going early in the morning for the best chance of calm conditions and fewer boats. It's a deep dive, so bring your A-game and a good light to appreciate the details – the colour returns surprisingly well at this depth.
