Negre del Falaguer - Medes Islands

Negre del Falaguer is one of those Medes dives we keep coming back to. Drop in and you’re immediately enveloped by the towering rock walls, usually covered in a fuzzy black leather sponge that gives the site its name. It’s a dive that just feels… substantial. We love heading into the narrow gully, keeping an eye out for sleepy dusky groupers lurking in the shadows. They’re practically residents here, along with the odd conger eel peeking from a crevice. The real magic often happens on the shallower shelves, especially if you catch it when the light is just right. You’ll see schools of Blotched Picarel shimmering, and if you’re patient, a Pandora might cruise past. Look closely at the sand patches too; we’ve spotted Atlantic Stargazers buried there, just their eyes poking out. This site is brilliant for divers who appreciate the dramatic rock formations and the larger, more established Mediterranean fish life. It’s not about flashy colours, but about the raw, wild feel of the reserve.
