Prophète - Medes Islands
Prophète, for us, is one of those Medes sites that just keeps giving. We love starting the dive by dropping onto the shallow reef top, often thick with ornate wrasse and damselfish darting between the rocks. It’s a great spot to tune into the rhythm of the place before you start your deeper exploration. The real draw here, though, is the wall itself. It’s a sheer drop, often quite dramatic, and it’s where you’ll find those big red gorgonian fans, swaying gently in the subtle current. They provide fantastic shelter for smaller critters. Look closely and you’re likely to spot moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads poking out with that classic wary expression. We’ve had some truly spectacular encounters with schools of barracuda here, just hanging in the blue, occasionally flashing silver as they turn. If you’re lucky, you might even see a moonfish drift by, an elegant, almost ethereal presence. Our tip for Prophète is to take it slow on the wall. Resist the urge to rush. The beauty is in the details, in the way the light plays on the rock, in the tiny nudibranchs you’ll find if you really search. This site suits divers who appreciate a good wall dive, who enjoy the thrill of open water encounters but also the reward of macro hunting. Just be mindful of other groups, it can get busy in peak season.
