Wrack 'Prosper Schiaffino' (Alias Donator) - Medes Islands

The *Prosper Schiaffino*, or *Donator* as most divers know her, sits upright at 42 metres, a seriously impressive wreck dive off the Medes Islands. We love this site for its sheer scale and the way the Mediterranean has completely reclaimed it. Descending, the hull gradually resolves from the blue, a dark silhouette on the sand. You’re greeted by enormous schools of barracuda circling the mast, their silver scales glinting, and sometimes a sunfish will cruise past, oblivious. Inside, the hold is open for exploration, and we always suggest bringing a torch to cut through the gloom and reveal the thick crust of jewel anemones and the occasional conger eel peeking from a pipe. The deck superstructure is particularly captivating; pink sea fans sprout like alien gardens, and common lobsters peek from beneath crumpled metal plates. It’s a dive that rewards careful buoyancy and a keen eye, perfect for advanced divers looking for a proper wreck experience with a vibrant biological overlay. We reckon the best time is mid-morning, before the currents tend to pick up.
