DORIS H - Baltic Coast

The Doris H is a bit of a local legend along the Baltic Coast, and for good reason. We love a wreck that tells a story, and this motor vessel certainly does, resting in just 11 metres after her fateful collision in the fog back in '72. You’re not getting deep here, but that’s part of the charm; it means plenty of bottom time to really poke around. What hits you first is the sheer intactness. She’s surprisingly well-preserved, sitting upright with her superstructure still largely in place. We always make a point of swimming through the wheelhouse; there’s something eerie, and frankly cool, about imagining the last moments. Look for the deck fittings, too. They’re still pretty clear. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, the light penetration is incredible, illuminating schools of small cod darting between the frames. We’ve spotted some hefty flatfish tucked into the sand nearby, too, always worth a quiet hover to see what pops out. It’s a perfect site for newer wreck divers wanting to experience a real piece of history without the challenge of extreme depth or current. Just remember that Baltic chill, even in summer.
