Wreck of Ilmarinen - Baltic Coast

The HMS Eclipse wreck off Bodrum is one of those dives we always recommend for a solid, rewarding afternoon. She’s an E-class destroyer, sunk deliberately in 1970 for diver training, but don’t let that put you off. Unlike some wrecks, she’s not completely stripped; you can still get a real sense of her structure. We love swimming along her deck, past the torpedo tubes, and peeking into the gun turrets. You’ll often find loggerhead turtles cruising by, completely unfazed, and the wreck itself is home to some impressive colonies of black leather sponge. Entry can sometimes be a little choppy depending on the season, so check the forecast. Once you’re down, the visibility tends to be pretty good, often 20 metres or more in the summer months, allowing you to appreciate the scale of the ship. Keep an eye out for silver-cheeked toadfish peeking from every crevice and the occasional red lionfish tucked away. It’s a comfortable dive for anyone with some wreck experience, offering plenty to explore without being overly challenging. We often spend a good hour down there, just taking it all in.
