CRACKERJACK - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Okay, Crackerjack. We’ve done this one a few times, and it’s always a solid dive, especially if you’re into wrecks that tell a story. This isn't some deep, technical behemoth. Sitting at a comfortable seven metres, it’s a yacht that went down, and the story of the crew’s rescue by a Russian vessel adds a real layer of drama to the dive. What you'll find is a surprisingly intact hull, considering its age. The deck structures are gone, but you can still trace the outline of where everything once was. We love how the light plays on the stern in the late afternoon, illuminating the bronze propellers. The real beauty here, though, is how nature has reclaimed it. Patches of dead man's fingers coral cling to the ribs, and every crack seems to hold a velvet crab or a squat lobster. On our last trip, a school of pollock circled the mast stump for the entire dive – just mesmerising. For divers, Crackerjack offers an intimate wreck experience without any of the usual depth or current worries. It’s perfect for honing your buoyancy, exploring at a relaxed pace, and getting right up close with the resident critters. The shallow depth means fantastic bottom time, and it’s an absolute winner for photography, particularly on a sunny day. We'd suggest aiming for slack tide for the best visibility, though the sheltered location usually keeps it decent.
