DOROTHEA - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Dorothea, off Sweden's West Coast, isn't just another wreck dive; it's a journey back to a moment in maritime history. This old steamship, resting upright at 34 metres, feels incredibly preserved, almost like it just settled there yesterday. We love how the bow points north, still defiant, with the mast and funnels leaning to port, creating this dramatic silhouette against the green light of the North Sea. When you drop down, the sheer scale hits you. You can spend a good chunk of your bottom time exploring the deck, peering into the cargo holds, or swimming along the superstructure. Our favourite moments are always around the stern, where the prop shaft housing is still visible, and the rudder lies at a jaunty angle. It’s home to some surprisingly robust crabs and a few plump cod, often tucked away in the darker corners. The ambient light here can be moody, especially on a cloudy day, so a good torch is essential to pick out the details and the deeper greens and browns of the wreck. This site is definitely for divers comfortable with depth and who appreciate a wreck with a real story to tell. It’s a proper expedition.
