FRANK DALGAARD - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Frank Dalgaard, resting at 44 meters, is a proper Gothenburg wreck, and one we genuinely love. She's a fishing vessel, sunk back in '77 after a run-in with a Russian freighter, which gives her a bit of a story before you even get in the water. Dropping down, you're looking at a substantial wreck, about 40 meters long, sitting upright on a silty bottom. The visibility here can be classic West Coast – sometimes a bit murky, sometimes surprisingly clear, but either way, the wreck looms out of the gloom. Our favourite part is the penetration; the wheelhouse is still quite intact, offering some tight but rewarding swims for experienced wreck divers. Inside, you can still make out the remnants of her working life. Outside, the superstructure is draped in fishing nets and growth, attracting cod and pollack that dart into the shadows as you approach. We’d suggest a good dive light to really pick out the details and the critters tucked into every corner. This dive is definitely for those comfortable with deeper wrecks and cold water, offering a real sense of history and some proper exploring.
