GOTFRIED BAUERNE - West Coast (Gothenburg)

We love a wreck that tells a story, and the Gotfried Baueme certainly does. This old coaster, sunk in 1954 after a collision, lies in a shallow 10 metres, making it incredibly accessible for most divers. You’ll find her mostly intact, resting on her port side. We usually start our dive exploring the bow, where the anchor chain still drapes dramatically over the side, then slowly make our way aft. The wheelhouse is a highlight, though it’s starting to show its age, with sections collapsing in on themselves. Inside, you can still peer into the small cabins. What really makes Gotfried Baueme special, though, is how nature has reclaimed it. The deck and superstructure are thick with plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the slight surge. Look closely and you’ll spot blennies peeking out from every crevice, and small crabs scuttling amongst the rust. The light penetration at this depth is fantastic, casting dappled patterns through the water and illuminating the wreck’s details. It’s a genuinely evocative dive, a quiet exploration of history and marine life that’s perfect for photographers or anyone who appreciates a gentle, contemplative wreck dive. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility.
