GUNHILD - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Gunhild is exactly why we love diving the West Coast. She’s a pretty little wreck, sitting upright at 25 metres. Not huge, but just the right size for a leisurely poke around without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. You can pop your head into the hold, peer at the old engine room from a distance, or just trace the deck outline. We always find ourselves drawn to the bow, where the anchor chain still drapes dramatically. What makes Gunhild a standout for us isn't just her history – she was a cargo ship that went down in 1938 – it’s how marine life has absolutely embraced her. The mast is thick with dead man's fingers. Ling often lurk in the shadowed nooks, and we’ve spotted plenty of gobies darting across the deck plating. The visibility here can be classic West Coast green, but that just adds to the atmosphere, a proper dive into a forgotten piece of history. We’d suggest going on a calm day; the surface chop can make the entry a bit lively otherwise. She’s perfect for divers who appreciate a wreck with character, where the story is told as much by the fish as the twisted metal.
