HAMMERN - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Hammern is, hands down, one of our favourite wreck dives on the Swedish West Coast. This isn't just a pile of metal; it’s a proper steamship, sitting upright, and she feels like a piece of history frozen in time. Descending through the often chilly North Sea green, the visibility can surprise you. We've seen it range from a tricky five metres to a brilliant fifteen, where the wreck just materialises out of the gloom. Once you’re on her, you can spend a solid chunk of a dive exploring the deck structures, peering into cargo holds, and getting a sense of her original form. The real beauty here, though, is how marine life has absolutely embraced this wreck. You’ll find schools of cod sheltering in the deeper sections, their dark forms blending with the steel. Conger eels are often tucked into crevices, their heads poking out with that curious, wary look. We’ve even spotted ling lurking in the more protected areas, big fish that really add to the atmosphere. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration, perfect for those who appreciate wrecks with character and the unique life they attract, rather than just colourful corals. Expect to feel that crisp Scandinavian cold, but also the thrill of discovery.
