HMS CRESCENT - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The HMS Crescent isn't just a hunk of metal on the seabed, it’s a time capsule, a real window into naval history. We love that it’s so well-preserved, sitting upright and remarkably intact considering it went down in 1808. You can spend a whole dive exploring the deck, peering into the gunports, and imagining the chaos of that stormy December night. The wooden hull is a dark, sturdy skeleton, draped in a thick shag carpet of plumose anemones, and the odd cod will drift out from a shadowy corner, eyeing you with a kind of weary curiosity. It’s a site for those who appreciate history and aren't afraid of a bit of chill, definitely one of our favourite cold water wrecks. Visibility here can swing from 5 metres to a decent 20, so pick your day. Slack tide is your friend for deeper penetration into the holds, where the light struggles to reach and the atmosphere is thick with the past. We'd suggest a good dive light to really make out the details of the ship's structure, and keep an eye out for the small stuff – crabs scuttling amongst the cannonballs. This wreck is perfect for experienced divers who appreciate the sombre beauty of a historical site reclaimed by the sea.
