JOACHIM SCHULTE - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Joachim Schulte holds a special place for us on Sweden's West Coast. This cargo ship went down in 1959, and it's settled upright on a sandy bottom at 16 meters. It's a proper shipwreck dive, not just some scattered debris. We love how intact the bow and stern sections are, giving you a real sense of its past. Swimming along the deck, you'll find plenty of open hatches to peek into, though penetration requires proper training given the silty conditions inside. The light filters down beautifully, illuminating schools of saithe that swirl around the mast. Look closely at the metalwork, it’s now home to plumose anemones, their frilly white tentacles swaying gently. Crabs scuttle in the shadows, and we often spot blennies tucked into crevices. Our favourite part? The sheer scale of the wreck against the surprisingly clear, green water. It's an excellent site for photographers, especially when the sun is out, painting dappled light across the deck. Dive this one early to avoid any surge from passing boats.
