KARINA - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Karina is a dive that always puts a smile on our faces. We love this little fishing vessel, sunk upright in a shallow bay just outside Gothenburg. Dropping down, you’ll find her sitting intact on a sandy bottom at a mere 8 metres, making her perfect for an extended no-decompression dive. What makes Karina special, beyond her accessibility, is the sense of history. We’ve heard she’s been down there since the 1960s, a testament to the cold North Sea preserving her wooden hull remarkably well. Exploring the deck, you can peer into the wheelhouse, imagine the old fishing gear, and sometimes spot curious little gobies darting from the shadows. The real show, though, is the sheer volume of plumose anemones that have completely taken over her superstructure. They sway gently with the slight current, creating a living carpet of white and orange, and often hide shrimp and small crabs amongst their tentacles. It’s a peaceful dive, ideal for photographers wanting to capture that classic wreck silhouette or for anyone just wanting to spend some relaxed time underwater. Visibility here can be variable, so we always suggest picking a calm day after a few days of settled weather.
