KONGSHAVN - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Kongshavn is one of our favourite West Coast wrecks, a proper little time capsule sitting upright in the silty embrace of the fjord. She’s not huge, about 36 metres, but the story of her sinking in 1974 after a collision is palpable when you descend. We love her intact superstructure. You can poke around the wheelhouse, imagine the old analogue instruments, and often find schools of saithe swirling around the mast. The holds are also open to careful exploration, especially if you have a good torch. Visibility here can be a bit variable, typical for a fjord, so we always check the recent reports. When it's good, though, the way the ambient light filters through the superstructure is beautiful, giving everything a soft, green glow. Keep an eye out for resident ling and cod tucked into the deeper parts of the wreck, and the anemones that have started to colonise the metalwork. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, perfect for those who appreciate maritime history and a slightly moody atmosphere. This isn't a deep dive, but it's cold, so a drysuit is a must.
