LONNY OGARD - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Lonny Ogard is exactly the sort of wreck we love on Sweden’s West Coast. This isn't some vast, imposing vessel, but a compact 17-metre fishing boat that settled upright after it went down in '93. We usually drop onto the stern, then drift forward over the wheelhouse, which is still largely intact. You can fin around the mast, looking for those inquisitive little blennies peering out from crevices, and the deck often has a healthy dusting of brittle stars. The main draw here is the way the sea has started to reclaim it. Expect to see plenty of plumose anemones, especially on the more exposed sections, swaying gently in the subtle current. We often find wolf fish lurking under the bow, and if you bring a good torch, the engine room offers a nice penetration for those with the right training – it's tight, but very atmospheric. For a relaxed dive that lets you spend time exploring detail, Lonny Ogard is a real winner. It suits divers comfortable with colder water and drysuits, looking for a leisurely swim through a well-preserved piece of maritime history.
