MELISSA - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Melissa isn’t just another lump of metal on the seabed. This old fishing trawler, sitting upright at 39 meters, feels almost like a time capsule. Dropping down, you hit the bow first, then the whole silhouette gradually resolves in the often-murky green water – a proper ship shape, not just scattered debris. We love how intact the wheelhouse still is; finning through it, you can almost imagine the old captain at the helm. What makes Melissa special, beyond her relatively good condition, is the life she's attracted. Despite the cold, the decks are fuzzy with anemones and hydroids, and we’ve often spotted conger eels peeking out from under plates, sometimes even a big wolf fish sulking in a doorway. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the ghostliness of a wreck and don’t mind a bit of low visibility. Our top tip: aim for a calm day, as the surface chop can make the descent less enjoyable. This isn't a site for beginners, but if you're comfortable with depth and overhead environments, the Melissa offers a deeply atmospheric dive.
