MONA METTE - West Coast (Gothenburg)
The Mona Mette, a Danish fishing boat that met its end in a collision in 1968, sits upright and largely intact at 34 metres. We love how the wheelhouse is still fully accessible, and peering inside, you can almost imagine the crew at their posts, a proper time capsule. Visibility can swing dramatically here, so pick a calm day with minimal swell for the best chance at decent light penetration. What makes Mona Mette a standout for us? It’s the way the light filters through the superstructure, illuminating schools of cod that patrol the deck, and the sheer number of hermit crabs scuttling across every surface. The wreck offers plenty of swim-throughs for confident divers, with the stern particularly photogenic as it’s often draped in plumose anemones. This site is a great pick for divers comfortable with deeper wrecks who appreciate a tangible piece of maritime history rather than just a pile of twisted metal. Just be mindful of fishing lines, a common sight on Swedish wrecks.
