OAKLAND - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Oakland wreck near Gothenburg is a proper experience, not just a dive. We love that it’s still mostly intact, sitting upright at 22 metres. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer size of the hull looming out of the green, a real testament to its history as a fishing vessel. It’s classified as dangerous, which sounds dramatic, but it really means there are plenty of entry points for careful penetration if you’re wreck-trained and comfortable with overhead environments. Our favourite part is exploring the wheelhouse, where you can still make out some of the instruments, now encrusted with colourful plumose anemones. Outside, the decks are a hive of activity, with schools of cod sheltering in the shadow of the superstructure and crabs scuttling amongst the twisted metal. It’s an ideal site for experienced wreck divers looking for a genuine journey into the past, with enough detail and marine life to make every dive feel fresh.
