POLANK - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Polank isn't your typical deep dive, but it's a stellar choice for a snorkel or a free-dive, especially if you're exploring the Gothenburg archipelago. At a maximum depth of one metre, this isn't about pushing limits; it's about getting up close with history. The wreck, sunk in 1965, is a former sailing vessel, now well-integrated into its shallow sandy home. We love Polank for its accessibility and the way it shifts with the light. On a sunny day, the timbers glow, and the sand around it seems to sparkle. You can trace the outline of the hull, parts of it still remarkably intact, and peer into the nooks where small crabs scuttle. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, perfect for those building confidence or keen on macro details. Bring a good mask and maybe a camera with a decent wide-angle for those overhead shots of the timbers against the surface. Our favourite time to visit is late morning, before any boat traffic picks up, when the water is calmest and the visibility is at its best. It's a peaceful spot, a real slice of history just beneath the surface.
