S/S Doris Wreck - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The S/S Doris, just outside Gothenburg, offers a proper wreck dive. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is how intact she is for a steamer that went down over a century ago. The holds are open, inviting a careful penetration if you’re properly trained, and the superstructure still rises proudly from the seabed at 25m. We love following the deck, peeking into the cabins where you might find a sleepy common seal taking shelter or the occasional inquisitive bull rout eyeing you from a pipe. Our favourite part is the bow, where the anchor chain still leads off into the gloom. Visibility can be a bit of a mixed bag here; sometimes it’s 10m and lovely, other times it's a real adventure with 3m of green soup. The best bet is to check local conditions and dive with an experienced guide who knows the site and the currents. Lobsters hide in every nook, and the soft corals give the old metal a surprising splash of colour. It’s an intermediate dive, perfect for those with a few wreck dives under their belt looking for a genuinely historical and explorable site.
