TORDENSKJOLD - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Forget what you think you know about Swedish diving. The Tordenskjold isn't a deep, dark plunge. This is an entirely different beast, a proper standout for snorkelers and very shallow divers. We absolutely love this site for its sheer accessibility and the way it brings history right to the surface. This isn’t some deep-water mystery, but a motor vessel sunk in 1963, lying so close to the shore you can practically wave at people walking past. It's listed as a dangerous wreck, which adds a certain thrill, though its shallow depth means you can swim right over and around it. You'll see the boat’s ribs, parts of its hull, and even some machinery peeking up from just two metres down. Our favourite thing is the light play here; sunbeams cut through the surface, illuminating schools of small fish flitting amongst the rusty metal. It feels like swimming through a living museum exhibit. You won't find flashy corals, but the growth on the wreck itself, the way the light catches the barnacles and the swaying kelp, that's the real draw. We'd suggest going on a calm, sunny day to really appreciate the visibility and the way the details pop. Bring a good camera for some truly unique split shots.
