VILDANDEN - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Vildanden is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to near Gothenburg. It’s a small pleasure craft, only 8.2 metres, but it’s sitting upright and mostly intact at 40 metres. You’ll find it quite dark down there, even on a sunny day, so good lights are essential. We love easing down the line, watching the bow appear out of the gloom. What makes it special for us is how much character this little boat has developed since it sank in 1988. The wheelhouse is still there, and you can peer through the windows. The mast lies across the deck, providing shelter for gobies and blennies. We always take a moment to look for the resident wolf fish that often hangs out near the stern. It’s a site that rewards careful exploration, perfect for advanced divers comfortable with depth and low visibility, and a chance to really slow down and appreciate a piece of history turned into an artificial reef. Don’t rush it; the best bits are often in the small details.
