CHRISTOFFEL COLOMBUS (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon
The Christoffel Colombus, or what we strongly suspect is her, sits deep off the Cornish coast, a proper dive for experienced hands. Dropping down to 53 metres, you’re looking at a serious commitment here, but the reward is a fishing vessel from 1970 that has settled into a surprisingly intact state. We love the way she's draped in fishing nets, a ghostly shroud that makes navigation a real challenge and gives the whole dive a slightly eerie feel. You’ll find plenty of conger eels making homes in the deeper sections, their dark eyes watching from shadowy nooks. Our favourite part is pushing through the wheelhouse, if the visibility plays ball, and getting a sense of the scale of this trawler. This is not a dive for the casual tourist; it’s for technical divers who appreciate the history and the sheer effort involved in reaching such a well-preserved wreck in these waters. Expect a dark, cold descent, but the feeling of exploring this deep-sea relic is something else.
