Dolphin Head Highly Protected Marine Area
Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - CORAL offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The CORAL wreck, sitting at 51 metres off Cornwall and Devon, is a proper deep dive, best suited for experienced technical divers. This steamship met its end in 1944, torpedoed by U-764, and what’s left of her now forms a fantastic artificial reef. We've seen conger eels nestled in the deeper sections, and the superstructure, though broken, still provides plenty of nooks for squat lobsters and the occasional anglerfish. It's a challenging dive, given the depth and often variable visibility, but the history and the marine life making a home here make it a worthwhile trip for those with the right training.
