DAWN GLEANER - Cornwall & Devon

The Dawn Gleaner sits upright at 58 metres, a proper technical dive and one we really rate for its intactness. This 18-metre fishing vessel went down in 1990, so it's had plenty of time for the ocean to reclaim it. We love dropping down onto the wheelhouse, still largely there, and seeing the deck spread out beneath us. You can fin around the mast and boom, often finding conger eels peering out from the shadows of the machinery. What makes the Dawn Gleaner special for us is the way it feels like a working boat just paused, rather than a broken mess. Schools of pollack often swirl above the stern, and we’ve seen some decent lobsters tucked into crevices along the hull. Visibility can be a bit variable down in the deep, but on a good day, the low light filtering through gives the whole site a wonderfully atmospheric feel. It’s a site for experienced technical divers comfortable with depths and overhead environments, offering a true sense of exploration without being overly complex.
