DEPUTIE GASTON DUMESNIL (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

We love a good mystery, and the *Deputie Gaston Dumesnil* (possibly) offers exactly that. Dropping to a shade over 50 metres, this isn't a dive for the casual weekend warrior. You'll need your experience here, especially with the often-surprising currents off the Cornish coast. What makes this wreck a standout is its intact nature. She sank in 1921, and while the sea has definitely left its mark, you can still trace her lines. Our favourite part is often the stern, where the triple-expansion engine still stands proud. It’s a proper industrial sculpture down there. Look closely for the squat lobsters tucked into every crevice, and the vibrant jewel anemones that cling to the metalwork, a riot of orange and pink against the rust. Visibility can vary wildly here, but on a good day, with a bit of sunlight filtering down, it's genuinely atmospheric. We'd suggest timing your dive for slack water; trying to fin against a strong tide at this depth is no fun at all. This wreck is perfect for technical divers who appreciate a piece of history and the challenge of a deeper, darker dive.
