DUNLIN - Cornwall & Devon

The Dunlin might be small, just a 13.4-meter fishing vessel, but we think it punches well above its weight for a wreck dive in UK waters. Sunk in 1992 after taking on water, she sits upright in 27 meters, surprisingly intact given her age on the seabed. We love diving the Dunlin on a calm day, especially with a bit of sunshine filtering through; it brings out the colour on the soft corals that have really taken hold. You’ll find her mast still standing proud, often swarming with pollack and bib. Ducking into the wheelhouse is always a treat, the light filtering in creating an eerie, atmospheric glow, and you’ll usually spot a few curious conger eels peeking out from darker corners. Look closely at the deck, too; dead man's fingers and jewel anemones practically carpet every surface, drawing in wrasse and blennies. The Dunlin is a fantastic dive for advanced open water divers looking for a penetrable wreck that’s manageable and full of life, without the strong currents sometimes associated with other Cornish sites.
