ELIZABETH ROBERTSON (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Elizabeth Robertson, well, *possibly* the Elizabeth Robertson, is a wreck we always enjoy revisiting off the Cornish coast. Dropping down, you’ll find her resting upright at 37 metres, a fishing vessel sunk back in ’75 after a fire, likely from a butane leak. She’s not huge, about 20 metres long, but what she lacks in size she makes up for in atmosphere. We love nosing around the wheelhouse, often finding a big conger eel peering out, or the odd lobster tucked deep inside. The real beauty here is how nature has reclaimed her. Plumose anemones blanket the structure, their white frills swaying gently, and massive jewel anemones burst with colour against the dark steel. We’ve seen schools of pollack circling the mast, and sometimes a curious grey seal will pop by for a look. It’s a proper expedition dive, a decent depth, so it suits those comfortable with a bit of bottom time and who appreciate the quiet history of a sunken ship. Go on a slack tide for the best visibility, otherwise, the current can make things a bit sporty.
