EMLYNVERNE - Cornwall & Devon

The Emlynverne isn’t just a pile of plates; she’s a proper wreck dive, sitting upright and largely intact at 47 metres. Dropping down, you’ll find her bow pointing north, her stern blasted open from that fateful U-boat torpedo in 1916. We love tracing the deck, seeing the broken mast sections lying draped, creating perfect little hideaways for conger eels – and trust us, the congers here are immense. The sheer scale of the wreck is impressive, a real sense of history down there in the dark, green water. Visibility can be a proper Cornish lottery, but when it’s good, the Emlynverne comes alive. Our favourite is exploring the collapsed superstructure midships, where schools of pouting hang thick in the gloom. It’s a site for experienced cold-water wreckies, no doubt, demanding good gas planning and solid buoyancy. Pick a slack tide window; the currents here can be fierce, making for a truly challenging dive if you get it wrong. But get it right, and it’s a deeply rewarding experience, a proper journey back in time.
