With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - EMPIRE OTTER offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Empire Otter sits upright at 35 metres, a proper deep wreck for experienced divers off the coast of Hartland Point. This tanker, sunk by a mine in 1941, offers a substantial structure to explore. We’ve found the stern section particularly interesting, with a good chance of spotting conger eels lurking in the deeper holds and plenty of crabs scuttling across the plates. Visibility can be a bit of a lottery here, but on a good day, the sheer scale of the wreck is impressive, making it a rewarding dive for those who appreciate a bit of history beneath the waves.
