FAIRWAY - Cornwall & Devon

The Fairway is one of those wrecks that just keeps giving, a fishing vessel that went down off Beer Head back in '78. We love coming here, especially on a calm day when the visibility stretches out beyond 10 meters. It’s sitting upright, making for an easy orientation dive, and you can still make out the general shape of a trawler. You'll spend most of your time exploring the stern, where the prop shaft and rudder are often surrounded by shoals of pout and the occasional wrasse darting in and out. The bow section is more broken up, but it’s a good spot to poke around for crabs and even small conger eels tucked away in crevices. What really makes the Fairway a standout for us is how accessible it is. It’s relatively shallow, meaning longer bottom times, and the marine growth is fantastic. Expect to see plenty of jewel anemones creating patches of vibrant colour, and often dogfish resting on the sand nearby. We'd suggest checking the tides carefully; slack water makes the exploration much more enjoyable, especially if you want to get a good look inside the wheelhouse remains. This wreck is a solid pick for divers who appreciate a bit of history and don't mind a chill dive with plenty of resident critters.
