FILS DU VENT - Cornwall & Devon

The *Fils du Vent* is a surprisingly accessible wreck, considering her backstory. We always appreciate a site with a bit of history, and this French trawler, scuttled by her own crew after an illegal scallop haul, certainly delivers. Lying in just 18 metres, she’s a great introduction to wreck diving in the UK, especially for those who want more than just scattered debris. Dropping down, the stern is often the first thing you pick out, the old propeller still intact, sometimes with a curious conger eel peeking from behind it. We love poking around the bridge area, where the wheelhouse has collapsed, creating interesting swim-throughs for smaller fish like blennies and wrasse. The deck is carpeted in plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the mild current, a stark contrast to the rusty metal beneath. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we always aim for slack water on an incoming tide for the best chance of clear views. It’s a good one for a relaxed second dive.
