FLEURET - Cornwall & Devon

The Fleuret, a French torpedo boat sunk in 1896, lies deep in Lyme Bay, a challenging but incredibly rewarding dive at 53 metres. This isn't one for casual divers; we'd say you need solid experience with deep wreck diving and good gas planning to really enjoy it. Drop down, and you hit the bow first, often into a cool thermocline, before the rest of her sharp, elegant lines come into view. We love tracing the deck, noting the torpedo tubes still in place – a real piece of naval history frozen in time. What makes the Fleuret a standout for us isn't just the history, though that's compelling. It's the way the light filters through the green water down there, illuminating the anemones and dead man's fingers that carpet her hull. You'll often find conger eels peering from every crevice, and big lobsters tucked into the darker corners. Visibility can be excellent, though if there's been a storm, it can stir things up. Our tip? Aim for neap tides and a calm spell of weather; it makes the long descent and decompression far more comfortable. It’s a proper expedition, and you come up feeling like you’ve genuinely explored something special.
