FLUENT - Cornwall & Devon

The Fluent is a beast, plain and simple. We’re talking about a 106-meter steamship, sitting upright, practically begging to be explored at 51 meters. It’s a deep dive, no two ways about it, so save this one for when you’re comfortable with your deco procedures and gas planning. Dropping onto her deck, you’re greeted by the sheer scale of the thing. The bow section is particularly impressive, rising out of the gloom, draped in a thick tapestry of plumose anemones and dead man’s fingers. What makes the Fluent a standout for us isn't just her size, it's the sense of history. Sunk by a mine in 1917, she’s a proper WWI casualty, and you can almost feel that echo down there. Visibility can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is in the UK, but when it’s good, the light penetrates just enough to pick out details like massive portholes and the ghostly outline of her superstructure. Look for conger eels lurking in the deeper recesses and plenty of wrasse darting through the anemones. We love a dive that gives you a tangible connection to the past, and the Fluent delivers that in spades. Definitely one for the experienced wreck divers amongst us, and absolutely worth the effort.
