FORT MEDINE - Cornwall & Devon

The Fort Medine is a proper piece of history on the seabed, and one we always recommend to divers exploring the Cornish coast. She was an old steamship, torpedoed back in 1941, and you can still feel that weight of wartime history as you descend. At 18 metres, it’s a comfortable depth for most open water divers, offering plenty of bottom time to really explore her structure. We love picking out the details, like the twisted metal plates and the distinct bow section. There's a real sense of her former life. Over the years, the wreck has become completely colonised. Expect to see a good covering of plumose anemones waving in the gentle surge, and plenty of wrasse darting between the beams. Our favourite spot is usually around the stern, where you often find conger eels tucked into crevices, watching you with those ancient eyes. Visibility can vary, so we always suggest checking local conditions, but on a good day, the light filtering through the green water makes for a truly atmospheric dive. It's not a massive wreck, but it's wonderfully intact in parts, making it a fantastic dive for anyone who appreciates maritime history and the way the ocean reclaims its own.
