GRATITUDE - Cornwall & Devon

The **Gratitude** sits in a significant depth for UK diving, touching 50 metres, which immediately tells you this isn't a beginner's site. We’d suggest you’re comfortable with deep and cold water before heading out here. This isn't your typical recreational jaunt. What makes her special is the story. Sunk by a German U-boat in 1918, she’s a tangible piece of history, and you feel that when you descend onto her. Visibility can be a real mixed bag in the English Channel, so patience is key. When it’s good, though, the stern section is particularly evocative, rising from the seabed like a ghost. There's a decent amount of ambient light even at this depth on a bright day. You can spend a good chunk of your bottom time exploring the debris field, where lobsters and crabs have set up permanent residence. Our favourite part is finding the anchor chains still draped across the bow, encrusted in jewel anemones that glow under your torch. It’s a challenging dive, yes, but for those who appreciate wrecks with a genuine story, and are prepared for the conditions, the **Gratitude** really delivers.
