Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - GURLI offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Gurli, an old steamship that went down back in 1917, now sits upright at 49 meters. It’s a good, solid wreck dive for those comfortable with deeper profiles in UK waters. We’ve found the bow and stern sections are still fairly intact, making for some interesting swim-throughs if you know where to look. Expect to see plenty of wrasse darting between the plates, and often enough, conger eels peeking out from behind the boilers. It’s a proper expedition, certainly not one for a quick splash, and probably best saved for a day with minimal current.
