HMS Formidable - Cornwall & Devon
False Reef, up in the Pacific Northwest, isn’t about colourful corals – think cold water, rugged beauty. We usually find ourselves dropping in to see what’s hanging around the eelgrass beds. It's a spot where you might not see huge schools, but the individual finds are often brilliant: a big skate hunkered down, or the curious spotted ratfish peering out. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too, like the four-spined squat lobsters and the plainfin midshipman. It’s a good dive for those who enjoy taking their time, spotting the camouflaged creatures, and embracing the distinct charm of a temperate reef.
