Log This Dive

HMS Minion

The HMS Minion is a proper deep dive, one of our favourites off the Lizard Peninsula. She’s a decent sized destroyer, 84 metres long, and lies upright on the seabed at 43 metres. We’ve found her remarkably intact for a wreck sunk nearly a century ago, and that’s what makes her special. You can still make out the outline of the stern, and a fair bit of the bow structure too, though the midships are more broken up. Dropping down, the sheer scale hits you. The decks are largely gone, but the ribs and plates form dramatic swim-throughs, choked with dead man’s fingers and anemones. The currents here can be lively, so pick your slack. We love exploring the debris field around her, where you often spot conger eels poking out from under plates, and schools of bib darting through the superstructure. It’s a dive for experienced deep divers comfortable with limited visibility and the occasional push of current. Seeing her rise from the gloom is always a thrill.
