HMS SELECT (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The HMS *Select* is one of those wrecks that truly earns its name; it’s a site for the diver who really knows what they’re looking for. Sitting at a consistent 45m, she's certainly a deep dive, but the reward is a remarkably intact drifter from the Great War. We love how the hull still forms a distinct shape against the seabed, a proper structure to navigate rather than just debris. Dropping down, you’ll find the deck guns are usually still visible, often cloaked in plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. It’s a site that feels a bit more remote, less picked over than some of the more accessible wrecks. Visibility here can be a bit of a gamble, but on a good day, the low light at depth gives the whole wreck a moody, almost reverent feel. Look out for conger eels tucked into any dark crevice, and the odd lobster peering from behind a bulkhead. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the rudder and propeller are often quite distinct, giving you a real sense of her scale. This isn't a site for beginners; you'll want solid deep-diving experience and an appreciation for a wreck that tells a story through its very bones.
