HUSH WING - Cornwall & Devon

We’ve always had a soft spot for the Hush Wing, even if it’s not the grandest wreck in Cornwall. Sunk back in 2011 after a fire, this 7m sailing vessel now sits in just 6 metres of water, making it incredibly accessible. You’re not exploring huge compartments here, but rather a wonderfully jumbled skeletal remains – ribs and keel exposed, with the burned timbers creating these fantastic, dark crevices. The real draw, for us, is how quickly life has taken hold. We’ve seen juvenile pollack darting through the wreckage, and if you look closely, you’ll spot gobies peeking out from under the collapsed decking. It’s a photographer’s dream on a sunny day, with the light playing through the fragmented hull, illuminating the colourful anenomes and hydroids that now carpet the timbers. It’s a site for those who appreciate the subtle beauty of a new wreck becoming part of the seabed, rather than a deep penetration dive. It suits a calm morning, less current, for the best visual experience.
