JUVENILE DELINQUENT - Cornwall & Devon

The Juvenile Delinquent, what a name for a wreck. We’ve always had a soft spot for this little yacht, sunk back in 2008 during a race off Weymouth. It's not a huge wreck, only 7.3m, but that actually works in its favour, sitting upright and pretty much intact at a manageable 16m. We love how the mast still points skyward, a skeletal finger inviting you down. What you get here is pure, unadulterated wreck diving, without the usual depth demands. It’s perfect for those newer to wreck penetration, though calling it a penetration might be overstating it a bit. You can poke your head into the cabin, see where the galley would have been, and imagine the crew’s last moments before that rogue wave swamped them. Our favourite part is the way the kelp has completely taken over the rigging, swaying with the surge, creating these lovely, green, living curtains. You’ll find squat lobsters tucked into every crevice, and often a decent school of pollack hanging out around the stern, darting into the shadows as you approach. It’s a gentle wreck, a thoughtful dive, and a cracking spot for photographers practicing their framing. Go on a slack tide, obviously, to really appreciate the stillness inside the hull.
