KANTOENG (PART OF) - Cornwall & Devon

The Kantoeng offers a different kind of wreck dive, a real piece of history laid out on the seabed. This old dredger capsized back in '37, and she’s now scattered west of Fowey Harbour. We love how the metal has softened over time, melding with the seafloor. It’s not about penetration here, but rather exploring the debris field, where twisted plates and beams form mini-habitats. Look closely and you’ll find conger eels tucked into crevices, their watchful eyes following you, and often a flurry of wrasse flitting between the structural remains. The maximum depth is a gentle 12 metres, which makes it perfect for longer dives, giving you plenty of time to poke around. Our favourite part is finding the odd identifiable piece of machinery, a true connection to the ship's working life. Visibility can be a typical Cornish mixed bag, but on a good day, the light plays beautifully through the water, illuminating the rust and the green growth that now carpets the wreck. This is a dive for those who appreciate history and the slow reclamation of the ocean.
