Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - KOLGA offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Kolga, a large steamship torpedoed in 1940, rests deep at 55 metres, making it one for experienced technical divers. We found the sheer scale impressive, with its 105-meter length still largely intact, allowing for some interesting penetration if you're qualified and conditions allow. Visibility can be hit or miss in the English Channel, but on a good day, you'll see the wreck draped in plumose anemones and dead man's fingers, with conger eels peering from every dark recess. It’s a serious dive, but for those with the training, it offers a real piece of wartime history and some robust marine growth.
